The preprint presents the breeding situation in a controlled population of black-and-white dairy cattle; describes the age structure of the population, as well as productive and breeding characteristics; calculates the parental index of cows; establishes the level of realization of the genetic potential of the breeding stock of the population. The novelty of the research consists in assessing the current state of breeding and productive characteristics of the black-and-white cattle population in the European North of the Russian Federation.
